Bridgewater Manor is close to Yarm, the town with the country's best high street (as voted on the BBC News website). This accolade will come as no surprise when you discover a variety of chic shops, exclusive restaurants, public houses with beer gardens, bistros, cafes, tearooms and a vibrant nightlife.

Yarm was once the most prosperous port on the river Tees, which is still evident today in the proud architecture of the town and the famously impressive 43 arch viaduct. The elegant Town Hall dates from 1710 and sits quietly in the centre of the cobbled high street, surrounded by the "wynds" - quaint passageways that run down to the river.

The nearby North York Moors National Park is bordered by the North Sea, with Scarborough and Whitby, plus the pretty fishing villages of Runswick Bay and Staithes all within easy reach.
